As situations get critical between Washington and Tehran, surprisingly enough, Cyberattacks seem to be on the rise. Iranian hackers have made it a mission to aggressively attempt to breach computer systems in the United States of America. Iran warns that things could get more serious.
Top cybersecurity companies like FireEye and CrowdStrike have come forward with vital reports suggesting a rapid increase in the cyberattacks. The process of hacking involves use of false emails to people encouraging them to download the software on their devices, which will allow hackers to have access to all the personal information of the victims.
Politico mentioned in an article – “Really, we’re seeing increased cyber activity that seems to be focused on the West,” said Adam Meyers, vice president of Intelligence at CrowdStrike.
Another organization mentioned in a report that it had witnessed attacks specifically targeted towards the Energy Department and National Labs. This is a result of rising tensions between the United States and Iran, going back in May when the U.S. deployed troops to the Middle East. The retaliation in cyberspace from Iran is a consequence of the designation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. as a terrorist organization.
The cyber attacks were primarily directed towards the government and private sector, as per the three agencies that were heavily involved in the investigation of the source of the attacks. It may only make sense to assume that Iran is potentially planning to get an idea of the U.S. decision making and may very well be interested in gathering information about what we’re planning.
As per the U.S. Officials, Iran is in the league of the top four well-known nations responsible for cyber attacks around the world, alongside Russia, China and North Korea.
