Mr Trump had vowed to label the gangs as terrorists after the killing last month of nine American citizens from a Mormon community in Mexico.

President Donald Trump has expressed his rage towards the Mexican cartel by vowing to label them as terrorists. This decision of the US President was inspired by last month’s incident when 9 American citizens from Mormon community in Mexico, were brutally killed.

Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, Mexican President and counterpart of the United States has requested President Trump to delay the plans of declaring the Mexican cartel as terrorist group.

“I celebrate that he has taken our opinion into account,” the Mexican president said. “We thank President Trump for respecting our decisions and for choosing to maintain a policy of good neighbourliness, a policy of cooperation with us,” he added. – Reported by BBC News.

President Donald Trump’s initial announcement of declaring Mexican cartel as designated terrorist group after a horrific incident when three women and six children of dual US-Mexican nationality were killed in an ambush in a remote area of northern Mexico, while traveling from their home on the LaMora ranch to a nearby settlement.

Reports suggest, the dead included, eight-month-old twins, Titus and Tiana, died alongside their two siblings, Howard Jr, 12, and Krystal, 10, and their mother, 30-year-old Rhonita Miller.

Shortly after the attack, the victim’s community requested the White House to declare the cartels as terrorist groups. The community of LeBarons insisted, “It’s high time we acknowledge that the cartels are terrorists.”

Keeping the financial and political situations between the US and Mexico in mind, the US president has now put the declaration on hold.

“All necessary work has been completed to declare Mexican Cartels terrorist organizations,” Mr Trump wrote on Twitter. “Statutorily we are ready to do so.”

Mexico’s brutal drug war has taken thousands of lives every year and still continues as a battle for power, territory and control.
