The greatest tragedy of 2021, the collapsing of Champlain Towers in Florida has reported 97 deaths so far.

The families of the deceased have barely coped up with the loss of their loved ones, now have another troubling situation to look forward to. Ruthless hackers are now targeting the identities of the deceased victims in the condo-collapse leaving their families with more grief.

Cybercriminal groups have proactively stolen identities of the victims as their real names were disclosed during the broadcast. “Law enforcement is working to track down the cybercriminals,” said Charles Burkett, Mayor of the City of Surfside.

“It’s terrible. I can’t wait to put a face to these deeds right now, and I think all of South Florida is eager to see who would do something like this – what kind of person would do something like this. But I’m looking forward to our police department apprehending them, and they are out there looking. I wouldn’t want to be that person right now.” Mr. Burkett further told local10.

Officials have not disclosed how many victims have been targeted by this cyberattack so far.

The families of the victims are advised to keep an eye on the credit reports of their deceased loved ones and urged them to contact the social security offices to find out about or report any suspicious activity.

Mayor Burkett vows to put the ones responsible for this cyber menace behind bars and wants to ‘Make an example of them’.
